Render Privacy Policy

EFFECTIVE DATE: JUNE 7, 2024

Introduction

Welcome! Render is the education technology innovation studio within the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative (“CZI,””we,” “us,” and “our”). Our Education team of designers, engineers, and researchers works directly with teachers and administrators early and often in the product development process, incorporating their unique insights about learning to co-build impactful educational tools.

Render offers co-building opportunities for educators, partner organizations, and education software developers. Co-building opportunities mean one or more of the following: research interview(s); survey(s); user experience research session(s); beta testing or pilot(s) of a Render tool; and/or other similar research or activities. Co-building opportunities can be remote or in-person. A Render tool is a digital educational product or feature under development within Render that may be presented or accessed during a co-building opportunity.

This Privacy Policy describes the personal information we collect when you sign up for and/or participate in co-building opportunities (including accessing or using a Render tool), and how we use, disclose, and protect it (the “Privacy Policy”). The Render website is subject to its own Website Privacy Notice (“Website Privacy Notice”). Capitalized terms used but not defined have the meanings set forth in the Render User Agreement.

The Privacy Policy applies to individuals who may be invited to participate in a co-building opportunity (“Prospective Co-Builders”) and those who agree to participate as defined in the User Agreement (Educator, Student, School Leader, Caregiver, and/or Partner; collectively “Co-Builders”) (Prospective Co-Builders and Co-Builders together are “Participants”).

For details about data privacy for schools, please review the School Use section below and our Data Privacy Addendum.

Summary:

Welcome to Render! If you sign up for or participate in a co-building opportunity, this Privacy Policy applies to you. The Privacy Policy describes what personal information is collected, as well as how we use, disclose, and protect that personal information.

For details about how we collect, use, and process personal information in the context of school or student participation in Render, please review the School Use section below and our DPA.

CZI does not place ads in Render nor use personal information of Students for ad purposes, including for behaviorally-targeted advertising purposes. We do not sell students’ personal information.
01

Information We collect

We collect information that may identify, relate to, describe, or could reasonably be linked (directly or indirectly) with a particular individual (“personal information”). The sections below explain how we collect personal information from you, schools (for Students and Educators), and Partners who help us recruit and work with Prospective Co-Builders. If you do not provide certain personal information (i.e., name and email address) or if you withdraw such information, then you may not be able to participate in co-building opportunities (including accessing Render tools).

1.1 Information we collect from you

We collect the following types of personal information from you:

  • Name and Contact Information. Your contact information, such as first and last name; email address; city, state, and school zip code; school district; and if you are a Caregiver, Educator or School Leader, your mailing address from a promotional marketing event.
  • Background and Demographic Information. Employment role and tenure (i.e., principal, IT administrator, teacher), if applicable; grade; subject; age; gender; and similar demographic details.
  • Sensitive Demographics. Race and ethnicity.
  • Content and Files: We may collect photos, documents, or other files you upload to a Render tool; and email messages or other communications if you send them.
  • Video & Audio Recording: We may film or otherwise record you during a co-building opportunity, but only with your prior consent.

If you access or use a Render tool, we collect the following information from your browser or device:

  • Device Information and Identifiers. In addition to log data, we collect information about the device you use to access a Render tool. This includes the type of device, browser type, operating system, settings, IP addresses, unique device identifiers, other software including type, version, language, settings, and configuration; and crash data that helps us understand when something goes wrong.
  • Usage Data. When you access a Render tool (whether on your computer or on a mobile device), we gather certain information automatically and store it in log files. This information includes referring/exit pages, pages you viewed, actions you’ve taken (including date and time stamps), clickstream data, login/logout times, duration of time spent on a page or in a Render tool, and other details about your use and actions. With your prior consent, we or our Partner(s) may use screen recorders to record your activities in a Render tool.
  • Cookies. We use cookies (small text files sent by your computer each time you visit Render that are unique to your account or your browser) and similar technologies to identify your device. This information allows us to, for example, understand how often you use Render, save your preferences, and identify Participants who are Students to limit our collection and use of personal information accordingly. Please see our Cookie Policy for more information.
  • Pixels. We use pixels, which are a type of technology placed on a website or within the body of an email for the purpose of tracking certain activity such as views of a website or when an email is opened.
  • Clickthrough URLs. If you receive newsletters, updates, or other information from us, our emails may use a “click-through URL” linked to content on our sites. When you click one of these URLs, they pass through a separate web server before arriving at the destination page on our sites. We use this click-through data to help us understand how recipients respond to, or interact with, our emails. If you prefer not to be tracked in this way, please do not click text or graphic links in emails you receive from us.
  • Inferences. We create or generate new information from the data we collect (“inferences”), including by using automated means to generate information about your likely preferences or other characteristics. For example, we infer your general geographic location (such as city, state, and country) based on your IP address.

Information we collect from Students may be considered sensitive personal information.

1.2 Information we collect form third parties:

We collect the following types of personal information from third parties about you, such as to recruit Participants for our co-building opportunities:

  • Caregivers’ names and contact information from schools, students, or educators.
  • School Leaders and Educators’ contact and demographic information from third-party Partners (as defined in the User Agreement) and/or third parties to whom we provide services.
  • Students’ names and contact information from Educators or schools with whom we and our Partners have relationships.
  • All types of personal information described in Section 1.1 from our Partners and Service Providers (defined in Section 3 below).

1.3 Information we collect from schools

We may receive your name and contact information from schools with whom we and our Partners have relationships. For example, if schools grant us access to their learning management systems (e.g., Blackboard) or rostering systems (e.g., Clever) as part of their participation in a co-building opportunity, then we may receive personal information about you (whether as an Educator, Caregiver, or Student). In this case, our use of the information is subject to the terms in our User Agreement and Data Privacy Addendum.

1.4 Information we do not seek to collect or store

Except as listed in Section 1.1 above, we do not seek to collect sensitive personal information about you, such as precise location or biometric data. If we become aware that such information has been provided, we will delete it within thirty (30) days of such awareness or get the appropriate consent to keep it if it is reasonably necessary for the Render co-building opportunities.

Summary:

We collect some personal information such as name and demographic information to improve the experience on Render. We collect it from you, schools, or certain third parties (typically to recruit Participants for co-building opportunities). We do not seek to collect sensitive personal information.

2.2 Safety

Safety. We use the personal information we collect to improve safety for our Participants. For example, we may contact Co-Builders using their email address to investigate suspicious activity, reported content, violations of School’s policies or our Community Guidelines. We may also use personal information to prevent spam; combat harmful conduct; verify accounts and activities; and maintain the integrity of Render. We may accomplish this through human review and automated systems.

2.3 No advertising

Advertising. Render does not include advertisements for third-party goods and services. However, we may use advertising to promote Render to Co-Builders (who we have not identified as Students) by using their email addresses or cookies to direct ads for Render to them on third-party sites or including third-party online services like LinkedIn. We do not use personal information of Participants identified as Students for advertising or marketing purposes.

As described in Render’s Website Privacy Noticeunder California and other U.S. state law, this practice is considered to be “sharing” of personal information and may also be deemed a “sale” of such information. You can opt-out of this practice by clicking the Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information link or the link provided in the footer of the website in the Render Website Privacy Notice and turn off the toggle switch for Marketing and Social Media Cookies. You may also be able to opt-out by broadcasting the Global Privacy Control (“GPC”) signal from a supported browser (see Section 9.3 for more information).

2.4 How we will NOT use personal information

We will NOT:

  • Include advertising in the co-building opportunities, including behaviorally-targeted advertising to Participants;
  • Sell, share, rent or lease (or authorize Service Providers to sell, share, rent or lease) any personal information we collect from Students for any purpose – including for advertising and marketing purposes;
  • Use (or authorize Service Providers to use) the personal information we collect in the co-building opportunities for the creation of commercial (for-profit) products or services; or
  • Use information collected from Students for anything other than educational purposes unless we have de-identified the information such that it cannot reasonably be linked to an identifiable Student.

2.5 De-identified information

De-identified information. We de-identify personal information and use de-identified information for any lawful purpose, including but not limited to research and product improvement of CZI’s educational sites, services, or applications. We consider “de-identified” information to be information that has direct and indirect personal identifiers removed such that the data cannot reasonably be used to identify or contact an individual. Such identifiers include persistent unique identifiers, name, ID numbers, and date of birth.

In cases where our use or sharing of data does not require an ability to identify individuals from the data, we may de-identify that data as a way of protecting privacy and security. Except where the de-identification is designed to permanently render the data unidentifiable, we will continue to treat that data as personal data. Where the process is designed to permanently de-identify the data, we will maintain and use the data only in a de-identified form and will not to attempt to re-identify it (except for the limited purpose of testing or evaluating the efficacy of the de-identification process or as otherwise permitted by law).

Summary:

Personal information is used to help improve safety on Render for all participants. While Render does not include 3rd party advertisements, we may use cookies to direct ads to you on 3rd party sites as long as you are not a Student. We do not sell any personal information we collect, nor do we use any information about Students for anything other than educational purposes.

03

How Information is (or is NOT) shared

In order to provide Render, we share any of the categories of personal information and sensitive personal information described in Section 1 above to the following categories of third parties below (or as described by the Render DPA, as applicable).

School Leaders. Because we offer Render to schools for education purposes, authorized School Leaders and Educators from schools may have legal rights to view, export, and request deletion of information in Render (including Render tools). School Leaders and Educators may have access to information for a limited time period, even after a Student or Educator has requested deletion of an account. The personal information would be processed under the Render DPA.

Caregivers. We may share Students’ information with their Caregivers as described in Section 4 Caregiver Engagement. We may share other information with Caregivers as authorized by other Co-Builders, or in the case we are offering Render to Schools, as authorized by the School. Such personal information would be processed under the Render DPA.

Service Providers. We use service providers to support the operation of Render, such as through document management, data hosting, and provisioning customer service tools related to Render (“Service Providers”). We do not and will not grant Service Providers the right to sell your personal information or to use it for any purpose other than what’s necessary to support Render. We also require Service Providers to implement reasonable security practices. We maintain a list of our Service Providers which may be updated from time to time. Depending on the source of the personal information (i.e., authorized by a School), it may be processed under the Render DPA.

New Owners. If the ownership or control of all or part of Render changes, we may transfer information to that new owner. We have committed to protecting personal information of Participants identified as Students in the event of such a change in ownership so that we honor commitments made prior to the change. In the event of such a change and if the new owner does not agree to comply with this Privacy Policy, we will provide you notice and a chance to opt out before any information is transferred.

Law Enforcement. We may access, preserve, and share Participants’ information in response to a legal request (e.g., warrants, subpoenas, court orders), if we have a good-faith belief that the law requires us to do so. In such cases, to the extent permitted by law, we will attempt to provide the Student, Educator, Caregivers, and/or School (as applicable depending on circumstances) with notice of such legal request prior to complying with it. We may also share Co-Builder information when we have a good-faith belief it is necessary to: detect, prevent and address fraud, unauthorized use of Render, violations of our policies (or School policies, if applicable), to protect ourselves (including our rights, property or products), you or others; or to prevent death or imminent bodily harm.

Other Third Parties. We may share personal information with other third parties, as authorized by the Co-Builder or by a School, if applicable, to the extent permitted by law and subject to our User Agreement (or, where applicable, our Data Privacy Addendum).

De-identified information. We will only share de-identified information should we wish to demonstrate how Render co-building opportunities (including Render tools) are used, their efficacy, or otherwise provide information or marketing materials related to Render. We may share aggregated and/or non-personally identifiable information publicly (such as statistics about visitors and website traffic patterns).

Third-Party Integrations. Please note that some of our services may include integrations, references, or links to services provided by third parties whose privacy practices differ from ours. If you provide personal information to any of those third parties, or allow us to share personal information with them, that data is governed by their privacy statements.

Summary:

We use personal information depending on the type of Participant you are (Prospective or actual Co-Builder; Student or other Co-Builder). We use it for safety purposes. We do not advertise third party goods and services. However, we advertise Render to Co-Builders, but not to Participants identified as Students. We de-identify personal information and use it for any lawful purpose, including but not limited to research and development.

We share your personal information in limited ways, including to school leaders for educational purposes (if such personal information was provided by a school); Student caregivers (if authorized by Co-Builders); and law enforcement if necessary.

04

Caregiver Engagement

We support and encourage the involvement of Caregivers in their students’ online activities. Caregivers and Students may, at any time, make a request to access, review, correct,  delete personal information, or stop future uses of Students’ personal information in Render by contacting privacy@buildwithrender.org.

If Students’ access Render co-building opportunities through their school, then Caregivers and Students may make a request to access, review, correct, or delete personal information by contacting their school.

We will process such requests within thirty (30) days of receiving a written request in a manner consistent with applicable law and the terms of the User Agreement (including the Data Privacy Addendum, if applicable).

05

School and Students’ Personal Information

COPPA governs the collection of certain information from children under the age of 13 (“child” or “children”). For more information about COPPA and generally protecting children’s online privacy, please visit the Federal Trade Commission COPPA FAQs and OnGuard Online. While COPPA does not directly apply to non-profit organizations such as CZI, we inform our practices with COPPA’s guidelines as part of our commitment to transparency with Caregivers regarding the collection and use of their child’s data.

If a School wishes to participate in Render, CZI may collect certain personal information such as a student’s first and last name and email address, but only for the benefit of the School in terms of the Student’s participation in Render through School and for no other commercial purpose. CZI will not collect personal information from a child under 13 years of age unless the Student’s School has authorized CZI to collect, use and disclose Student personal information on behalf of parents. If such personal information is collected without Caregiver consent or collected beyond the scope needed for participation in Render, and if we become aware of such information, we will delete it within thirty (30) days of such awareness or as directed by applicable law, or seek to obtain the appropriate consent to keep it, if permitted by applicable law and if it is reasonably necessary for the Render co-building opportunities. If you believe that information from a student under 13 years of age has been provided in violation of these terms, please contact us at privacy@buildwithrender.org. For more information about our processing of Student personal information, please refer to our Direct Notice to Educational Institution and Data Privacy Addendum.

The commitments we make regarding information collected from or about Students apply equally to all Students regardless of their age. Accordingly, where this Privacy Policy references Students or any information collected from or about Students, our Privacy Policy applies to Students under 13 years old as well as Students 13 years old and above.

Summary:

Render follows COPPA guidelines to protect children’s online privacy. If a School participates in Render, we may collect a student’s name and email to facilitate participation, but we will not use this information for commercial purposes.

06

Security and Accuracy of Personal Information

The security of personal information from our Participants is important to us, and we work hard to protect it from unauthorized access and use. In an effort to prevent unauthorized access, disclosure, or improper use of Participant information, and to maintain data accuracy, we have established physical, technical, and administrative safeguards designed to protect the personal information we collect. For additional technical details regarding CZI’s security programs and measures, please see our Security Overview. To help us protect personal data, we request that you use a strong password and never share your password with anyone or use the same password with other sites or accounts.

Summary:

Our Participants’ safety is a top priority, so we have physical, technical, and administrative safeguards in place to protect your data.

07

Data Retention

We will only retain personal information, including personal information from Participants, for the time period required to support the authorized educational purposes (if a School or Student) or for as long as necessary to provide the Render services and fulfill your requests.

Following a Student’s request to delete personal information (including information related to a Render tool), we will notify their Educator and School Leader and verify the request. Similarly, following an Educator’s account deletion request, we will notify their School Leader that the Educator’s account (and associated Student accounts, if applicable) will be removed and verify the Educator’s request.

Once a Participant’s request is verified, we will retain a Participants’ information for a 30-day period to support the management by a School or Educator of any information considered part of an education record. At the end of the 30-day record retention period, we will delete, dispose of, or de-identify the personal information unless, consistent with applicable law, there is a legitimate reason to retain such personal information for a longer period. For example, we may retain personal information for a longer time period if we have consent to retain such information or if we are required to retain such information to comply with our legal obligations or law enforcement requests, resolve disputes, protect the safety and security of our Participants or Render, or enforce the User Agreement (including, if applicable, the Data Privacy Addendum), other agreements, or any posted guidelines, policies or rules applicable to specific features of Render, or for other legitimate and lawful business purposes. Because these needs can vary for different data types in the context of different services, actual retention periods can vary significantly based on criteria such as user expectations or consent, the sensitivity of the data, the availability of automated controls that enable users to delete data, and our legal or contractual obligations. We will also delete Participant accounts after a period of inactivity.

Summary:

We keep personal information no longer than what’s needed to support authorized educational purposes, and we will delete this information upon verifying the deletion request.

08

Schools Can Request Deletion

In the event we provide Render to Schools, Educators or School Leaders may request the review or deletion of their Student’s information, or the closure of Students’ accounts. At the end of the 30-day record retention period following a deletion request, we will delete or de-identify such information, unless we otherwise have consent to retain such information or are required to retain such information to comply with a valid access or transfer request for education records, or for reasons described in Section 7 Data Retention, above.

Summary:

Teachers and schools can request that we delete and update student personal information.

09

Your Choices Regarding Your Personal Information

We provide a variety of ways for you to control your personal information, including choices about how we use that data. In some jurisdictions, these controls and choices may be enforceable as rights under applicable law.

9.1 Access, portability, correction, and deletion
  • Access personal information. You can ask us for a copy of your personal information, including in a machine-readable form (data portability).
  • Change or correct personal information. You can also ask us to change, update, or fix inaccurate personal information in certain cases, subject to our legal obligations and lawful exceptions.
  • Delete personal information. You can ask us to erase or delete all or some of your personal information subject to our legal obligations and lawful exceptions.

To make such requests, contact privacy@buildwithrender.org. In the email, please provide us with your name, state in which you live, and which of the above rights you would like to exercise. We may ask for additional information that allows us to reasonably verify that you are the person about whom we collected personal information such as the name of your school or district, or to send your request from the email address associated with your account. Please also let us know if you have questions or concerns related to exercising any rights you have under applicable law.

9.2 Object to, limit, or restrict use of personal information
  • Communications preferences. You can opt out from communications with Render at any time via the unsubscribe link in emails from us.
  • Targeted advertising and data sale / sharing. As described in Section 3 of this Privacy Policy, for visitors other than those identified as Student, we may use third-party advertising cookies on our Website in order to help us deliver advertising about Render on third-party sites. Some privacy laws define data “sales” broadly to include such practices (and under California law, this practice is considered to be “sharing” of personal information). You may opt out by using the controls described in Section 9.3 above or by using a browser Global Privacy Control as described below. Lastly, you can use the opt-out controls offered by the organizations our advertising providers may participate in, which you can access at: NAI and DAA.
  • Profiling and automated decision-making. Some privacy laws provide a right to opt-out of profiling or automated processing in furtherance of decisions that produce legal or similarly significant effects concerning the consumer. CZI does not engage in such profiling or automated processing.

9.3 Browser or Platform controls
  • Cookie controls. Most web browsers are set to accept cookies by default. If you prefer, you can go to your browser settings to learn how to delete or reject cookies. If you choose to delete or reject cookies, this could affect certain settings or features of our website. Please see our Cookie Policy for more information.
  • Global Privacy Control. Some browsers and browser extensions support the “Global Privacy Control” or similar controls that can send a signal to the websites you visit indicating your choice to opt out from certain types of data processing, including data sales and/or targeted advertising, as specified by applicable law. When we detect such a signal, we will make reasonable efforts to respect your choices indicated by a GPC setting or similar control that is recognized by regulation or otherwise widely acknowledged as a valid opt-out preference signal.
  • Do Not Track. Some browsers include a “Do Not Track” (DNT) setting that can send a signal to the websites you visit indicating you do not wish to be tracked. Unlike the GPC described above, there is not a common understanding of how to interpret the DNT signal; therefore, our websites do not respond to browser DNT signals. Instead, you can use the range of other tools to control data collection and use, including the GPC, cookie controls, and advertising controls described above.

If you would like to appeal a CZI decision with respect to a request to exercise any of your rights, please email us at privacy@buildwithrender.org and explain the basis for your appeal.

CZI will not discriminate against you in any manner for exercising any of the above rights with respect to your personal information.

Summary:

We provide a variety of ways for you to control your personal information, including choices about how we use that data. To make such requests, contact privacy@buildwithrender.org with the appropriate details for the request. You can limit the use of your personal information, including using browser or platform controls.

Additional Information for California Residents

While the CCPA does not apply to nonprofit organizations like CZI, we take privacy seriously and have chosen to inform our practices with the CCPA. Specifically, this means the below.

10.1 Data Subject Rights

In addition to the rights listed in Section 9, California residents have the additional “right to know.” This right allows you to request the following information about the personal information that we’ve collected about you in the past 12 months:

  • Information about Data Collection
    • The categories of personal information that have been collected.
    • The specific pieces of personal information that have been collected about you.
    • The categories of sources from which we have collected personal information.
    • The business purpose for which we have collected personal information.
  • Information about Data Disclosure
    • The categories of personal information that we have sold, shared, or disclosed for a business purpose.
    • The categories of third parties with whom personal information has been sold, shared, or disclosed for a business purpose.

Note that general details about data collection and disclosure are provided in this Privacy Policy. If you wish to exercise your rights or request more specific details about the above, email privacy@buildwithrender.org and follow the instructions in Section 9.1 above.

You also have the right to request correction or deletion of your personal information under certain circumstances, subject to a number of exceptions, and to opt-out of selling or sharing of your personal information. To request correction or deletion of your personal information, please make your request by emailing privacy@buildwithrender.org and following the instructions in Section 9.1 above or contacting us through the Contact methods described below. To opt out of selling or sharing of your personal information, please follow the instructions in Section 2.3 above.

You may designate, in writing or through a power of attorney, an authorized agent to make requests on your behalf to exercise your rights under the CCPA. Before accepting such a request from an agent, we will require the agent to provide proof you have authorized it to act on your behalf, and we may need you to verify your identity directly with us. If you would like an authorized agent to make a request for you, have that agent email privacy@buildwithrender.org with the above information to us with additional information sufficient for us to verify that the authorized agent is acting on your behalf.

We may verify your request as described in Section 9.1 above. As described in Section 9.3 above, you have a right to not be discriminated against for exercising these rights set out in the CCPA.

Additionally, under California Civil Code section 1798.83, also known as the “Shine the Light” law, California residents who have provided personal information to a business with which the individual has established a business relationship for personal, family, or household purposes (“California Customers”) may request information about whether the business has disclosed personal information to any third parties for the third parties’ direct marketing purposes.

Although we are not a for-profit business, please be aware that we do not disclose personal information to any third parties for their direct marketing purposes as defined by this law.

10.2 Additional Disclosures/”Notice at Collection”

You have a right to receive notice of our personal information collection, use, retention, and disclosure practices at or before the collection of personal information. We have described in fuller detail in this Privacy Policy the personal information that we collect, how we use and disclose it, and how long we retain it but provide the following overview here:

  • Information we collect. We have collected the following categories of personal information within the past 12 months: (1) name and contact information; (2) background and demographics; (3) sensitive demographic information; (4) content and files, such as communications to us; (5) device information and identifiers; (6) internet or other similar network activity and usage data; (7) information and identifiers from cookies, pixels, clickthrough URLs, and similar technologies;  (8) education information, such as employment role, grade, and subject; (9) inferences drawn from your information and/or activities; and (10) audio and visual information as part of the content and communications exchanged between Students and Educators participating in co-building opportunities. See Section 3.1 of this Privacy Policy above for more details.
  • Purposes of collection, use, and disclosure. As described in Sections 2.3. and 2.4 above, we do not “sell” or “share” personal information (as those terms are defined by the CCPA) of the Participants identified as Students. We may use teacher data for advertising purposes in ways that could be considered “sharing” or “selling” under the CCPA. In addition, we use or disclose the personal information we collect for one or more of the business purposes described in Sections 2.3 and 2.4 above.
  • Retention of information. We only keep personal information for as long as it’s necessary to provide Render. In certain cases, we may need to keep personal information if the law requires a different duration, or as directed by the teacher or school. See Section 7 above for more details.

10.3 Notice of Financial Incentive

We may, at times, offer thank you gifts when you participate in certain co-building opportunities. When you sign up for one of these co-building opportunities, we typically collect your first and last name and email address so that we may provide you with the co-building opportunities you requested as well as other opportunities that we think may be of interest to you. We have not assigned a specific monetary value to the personal information we collect via these incentives as the value varies from consumer to consumer, based on the type and number of co-building opportunities that each Co-Builder joins. But we do receive value in the form of Co-Builder engagement and feedback, which we estimate by using industry practices for user experience research across similarly-situated philanthropic endeavors. You can unsubscribe from our newsletters and related communications as described in the communications, which will opt you out from related thank you gifts, but you can retain any thank you gift received prior to opting out.

Summary:

California residents have a right to request information about the personal data Render collects from you. You also have a right to receive notice about how we are collecting, using, and disclosing your personal information before we do so.

We may offer thank you gifts to participants for certain Render co-building opportunities, and we ask for a Co-Builder’s name and email address in order to identify co-building opportunities that are relevant for them. How We Communicate With You

If you access a Render tool (or otherwise provided an email address or phone number to us, or otherwise opted-in to receive communications from us), we may send you messages related to Render, including messages regarding your account(s) with Render tools, privacy and security notices, and updates and information regarding Render. These communications may be sent through push notifications, email, telephone calls, and postal mail. (Note: Standard carrier fees may apply to messages sent to your mobile devices.) If you have an account with us, we’ll also use your contact information for customer service purposes, or to contact you for legal matters or purposes. We may receive a confirmation when you open an email from us if your device supports it.

For School Leaders. We require Educators signing up for Render to tell their School Leader about it. This means an Educator may provide us with your email address so we can send you an email from the Educator telling you about their participation in Render. We may also contact you with questions related to your School’s participation in Render via your Educators and Students.

For Caregivers and Legal Guardians. Educators and School Leaders may help us recruit Students to participate in Render. This means Educators and School Leaders may provide us your email address and/or phone number so we can send you information about Render. We may also contact you with questions related to your child’s participation in Render.

Summary:

If you provide contact info to us in order to participate in Render, we may send you messages related to your account, or updates and information regarding Render.

An Educator wishing to co-build with Render must first get authorization from their School Leader, and may give us the School Leader’s contact information to coordinate participation. Also, Educators and School Leaders may provide Render with Caregivers and Legal Guardian’s contact information to coordinate their students’ participation.

We Are Transparent About Changes

We may modify this Privacy Policy or our User Agreement from time to time. If we make material changes to this Privacy Policy, including changes that impair your rights or change how your data will be used under this Privacy Policy, we will provide you at least 30 days prior notice pursuant to this Section 12. We will seek to provide you notice through Render, or by other means, to provide you the opportunity to review the changes before they become effective. We agree that changes cannot be retroactive.
